At Butterfly Outpost, hand harvesting and small batch distillation methods are used to create high quality essential oils, hydrosols, balms and perfumes. The carefully picked flowers and herbs are distilled in a handcrafted copper pot still using centuries old practices.
Early alchemists practiced the art of distillation, placing flowers and herbs in water in the bottom of the still. A fire under the still brought the water to a boil, and vapor rose into a cooling chamber, where it condensed into the liquid essence we now know as essential oil. The process of steam distillation is used at Butterfly Outpost to extract the fragrant elements from flowers and herbs such as lavender and rose. These aromatic essential oils and hydrosols are available for purchase, as well as a small line of skin care products such as balms, bath and body oils, and botanical perfumes.
